Steam Engines

These are some of the steam engines I have made using my lathe and mill. When compressed air or
steam is applied, they actually run!
This is my first steam engine.  It came as a kit
and every part had to be machined or made
from stock material.  The plans came with the
kit.  It is called a wobbler because the
cylinder and piston wobble back and forth
across the intake and exhaust holes.
My second engine.  It also came as a kit which
had to be machined on my lathe and mill. Some
parts had to be made from stock material.  It is a
little more complicated  because it has a valve
mechanism.  Please forgive my paint scheme on
all of these.
My fourth try at steam engines.  The plans came
from the Internet.  It is a wobbler engine
because as with the first engine, the cylinder
wobbles back and forth.  All parts were made
from stock material.  Mostly aluminum with some
brass.  Colors remind me of an Easter egg!
My third steam engine.  I got the plans for
this one from the Internet.  It is called the
'rattler' because it rattles when it runs.
Students at a university make this as a
project according to the Internet.  Every
part was made from stock material on the
lathe and mill.
My fifth steam engine, another wobbler.  I
copied most of it from an old commercial steam
engine I had.  It is all made of brass from stock
material.  I did not paint it and will probably not
paint any more of my engines.  I like them
better in their natural state.
My sixth steam engine, a wobbler, made from
stock plastic material.  It is the same as the fifth
engine except it is made of plastic so you can
see the moving parts.
